Key Moments:

Key Takeaways:

  • Try to incorporate health into your daily life, rather than see it as ‘other’. In a listener-asked example, rather than having to choose between cooking a healthy meal and spending time with your child, why not cook with them, or have them nearby while you cook.
  • It can be so beneficial to redirect your energy away from worrying about things, to just getting them done!
  • Find your balance between pushing yourself to do better and knowing when to stop. If we always hold off because we don’t “feel like it”, we may never start something amazing and beneficial!
  • When trying to form habits, start small and work your way up slowly. If you try to do too much too fast, your habit likely won’t stick in the long term.
  • It’s okay to find your own way of doing things. If you don’t enjoy walking, find an alternative that you do like!
  • It’s important to really evaluate your motivations - cosmetics alone are usually not enough. Think of all the additional benefits.
  • Endless scrolling social media can be a huge block in forming positive habits.
  • It’s your responsibility to take control of your own health and wellbeing.
  • There’s no better time to start than right now! It’s ok to just start with what you have, it’s not a race.

Speaker:

I don't know anyone where

Speaker:

everything's perfect in our lives if

Speaker:

we're all honest there's all areas

Speaker:

where we do want to change.

Speaker:

I've had to really take a good

Speaker:

look at myself and see how much

Speaker:

energy I've wasted over the years

Speaker:

worrying about things.

Speaker:

What am I going to do tomorrow when

Speaker:

that inner voice that has always

Speaker:

been there...

Speaker:

Belittling me and putting

Speaker:

me down and never encouraging

Speaker:

me. What am I going to answer

Speaker:

to that voice? Because that voice is

Speaker:

not going to go away.

Speaker:

And that's not because you you're

Speaker:

crazy.

Speaker:

Everybody has got that little voice.

Speaker:

Yeah, I think yeah,

Speaker:

I think you said so many times in

Speaker:

this interview and I'm so grateful

Speaker:

that you have, that this is not

Speaker:

about beating yourself up.

Speaker:

It's not about judging yourself.

Speaker:

There's a huge difference

Speaker:

between

Speaker:

understanding

Speaker:

where you're at and criticising

Speaker:

yourself.

Speaker:

I think there are two things that we

Speaker:

should start our morning with

Speaker:

that is a must.

Speaker:

That doesn't mean that they need to

Speaker:

go to boot camp, you know,

Speaker:

but that doesn't mean that they need

Speaker:

to become plant based overnight.

Speaker:

What it is meditation?

Speaker:

Do I have to become a monk like, you

Speaker:

know, in the cave and humming?

Speaker:

No, that

Speaker:

is a killer of any

Speaker:

any physical, mental and emotional

Speaker:

health chance of you

Speaker:

feeling in control of your life.

Speaker:

You know, people that succeed, they

Speaker:

have a plan. They don't don't just

Speaker:

go with the flow.

Speaker:

Hello. My name's Catherine Edwards,

Speaker:

host of the Live Love Learn podcast.

Speaker:

For people that are listening to

Speaker:

this on a podcast platform

Speaker:

rather than on my YouTube.

Speaker:

Now, I am absolutely delighted

Speaker:

to have back a guest that I've had

Speaker:

on my channel before.

Speaker:

Angelica Alen and Angelica

Speaker:

Alen is a health and life coach,

Speaker:

and we did a first interview that I

Speaker:

really encourage everyone to listen

Speaker:

to, which was about "the

Speaker:

mindset that changed my life".

Speaker:

And Angelica explains the journey

Speaker:

that's got her to where

Speaker:

she is today.

Speaker:

But today we are going to be

Speaker:

speaking about something that is

Speaker:

absolutely fundamental to

Speaker:

every single one of us watching,

Speaker:

because when we start having

Speaker:

a better grasp of this,

Speaker:

everything in our life changes.

Speaker:

And what we're going to be talking

Speaker:

about today is habits,

Speaker:

everything to do with habits, how

Speaker:

we can recognise when our current

Speaker:

ones are no longer serving us, and

Speaker:

most importantly, how we can

Speaker:

create new habits which

Speaker:

are going to serve us physically,

Speaker:

emotionally, mentally, spiritually

Speaker:

to create the life that we want.

Speaker:

So Angelica, first and foremost,

Speaker:

thank you so much for coming back

Speaker:

today.

Speaker:

How are you doing?

Speaker:

Thank you so much, Catherine, for

Speaker:

having me. It's just a pleasure.

Speaker:

It's so great to reconnect.

Speaker:

Our first episode, like you said, I

Speaker:

really encourage people to listen to

Speaker:

it. It was amazing.

Speaker:

And today we're going to be

Speaker:

answering a few questions from that

Speaker:

episode as well, which I think it's

Speaker:

great that people are participating,

Speaker:

wanting to make some

Speaker:

changes to improve their life as

Speaker:

well. And I think the initiative

Speaker:

that you're doing here and it's

Speaker:

incredible, so, so amazing.

Speaker:

You know, we need more people like

Speaker:

you doing this kind of work.

Speaker:

I think living consciously, such an

Speaker:

important part of

Speaker:

our lives, if we want to create

Speaker:

this beautiful, happy and fulfilled

Speaker:

life that we are in this lifetime

Speaker:

to live for. So thank you so much

Speaker:

for having me here.

Speaker:

It's absolutely a pleasure.

Speaker:

And I really love the fact that

Speaker:

so many of our listeners asked

Speaker:

questions below our last

Speaker:

video.

Speaker:

So for those of you watching this on

Speaker:

YouTube, please do ask questions

Speaker:

in the comments. And Angelica and I

Speaker:

can come back and cover those next

Speaker:

time. And for those of you listening

Speaker:

on to a podcast platform

Speaker:

all my contact details to email

Speaker:

any questions through are below.

Speaker:

Now, before we really launch into

Speaker:

it, we are having a few Internet

Speaker:

issues because Angelica is in the

Speaker:

middle of a move.

Speaker:

So if we freeze a bit, just bear

Speaker:

with us. It's worth sticking through

Speaker:

because there's so much information.

Speaker:

Let's start Angelica with

Speaker:

some of the questions we had last

Speaker:

time, if that's okay.

Speaker:

I've written a few of them down and

Speaker:

you can- if

Speaker:

I've missed any, let me know.

Speaker:

But the reason I think we should

Speaker:

start with these is they lead really

Speaker:

nicely. They link in to what we're

Speaker:

going to be talking about today,

Speaker:

many of them anyway.

Speaker:

So we have one really good question

Speaker:

where I'm not mentioning people's

Speaker:

names, just because I didn't

Speaker:

ask them if they're happy to have

Speaker:

that them read.

Speaker:

But this was a really good question.

Speaker:

I have a full time job and a

Speaker:

daughter.

Speaker:

All of this super healthy living is

Speaker:

very good and well, but how do

Speaker:

we fit in time for it?

Speaker:

Seriously, the other day to make

Speaker:

healthy food, I had to choose

Speaker:

between seeing my daughter and

Speaker:

making us a nice meal.

Speaker:

I'd really appreciate an episode

Speaker:

on fitting all this into a day/week

Speaker:

schedule.

Speaker:

Bulk cooking is a good idea, but

Speaker:

this is great frozen?

Speaker:

Sometimes hearing about all the

Speaker:

health supplements and what I'm

Speaker:

doing wrong actually adds stress

Speaker:

onto to a life where I struggle

Speaker:

to fit things in.

Speaker:

I think a lot of people can

Speaker:

empathise with that.

Speaker:

Angelica.

Speaker:

Yeah, definitely.

Speaker:

And I think that's real.

Speaker:

Everybody's busy, right?

Speaker:

Like, I, you know, so

Speaker:

for the people that don't know about

Speaker:

my story that I shared in the

Speaker:

last episode, I am a stage three

Speaker:

cancer survivor.

Speaker:

I then I started my healing journey

Speaker:

during chemotherapy.

Speaker:

So for me was somehow kind

Speaker:

of a gradual increase in

Speaker:

to, you know, I have

Speaker:

new habits that I had to retain in

Speaker:

a busy life because during chemo I

Speaker:

was at home.

Speaker:

But then once I started getting

Speaker:

back to normal life and I needed to

Speaker:

go to work and be at work and

Speaker:

and do things and do normal things

Speaker:

in life and life got busy.

Speaker:

I had to fit everything that I

Speaker:

did within my

Speaker:

whole life again.

Speaker:

Right. And I think that

Speaker:

one thing that it's very,

Speaker:

very easy to do

Speaker:

is that...

Speaker:

To think that health is

Speaker:

put aside.

Speaker:

Like so the question

Speaker:

that we're talking about, you know,

Speaker:

how do I fit in?

Speaker:

Oh, like, how can I...

Speaker:

Should I spend time with my daughter

Speaker:

or cook a healthy meal?

Speaker:

Why can't we just do both together?

Speaker:

You know, take this

Speaker:

journey with me, right?

Speaker:

That's what I said!

Speaker:

And, you know,

Speaker:

I.

Speaker:

You know, and I'm not saying that

Speaker:

they cook for me every day, but

Speaker:

my kids, they want to

Speaker:

know, what are we having for dinner?

Speaker:

They cherish, like sitting

Speaker:

down together and having a good

Speaker:

meal together.

Speaker:

You know, they want to participate

Speaker:

on the choices that we going to

Speaker:

have, you know, every day

Speaker:

because they know how important it

Speaker:

is to eat healthily.

Speaker:

So if even if they're kind of,

Speaker:

you know, going around the house and

Speaker:

not knowing what to do because I

Speaker:

don't want them to be on devices and

Speaker:

things like that, I'll say to them

Speaker:

ok you can come and help me, or you

Speaker:

can go and read a book next to me,

Speaker:

or you can draw like my daughter

Speaker:

likes drawing next to me.

Speaker:

So it's kind of because I think it

Speaker:

depends on the age as well.

Speaker:

I think when they are little, they

Speaker:

just want to be close to you.

Speaker:

They just want to be with you, you

Speaker:

know? And if you kind of listen to

Speaker:

some music together and they are

Speaker:

doing that just by being close,

Speaker:

you know, physically, you know, they

Speaker:

are happy because they have you

Speaker:

there and you can be talking about

Speaker:

your day to day or you know, what is

Speaker:

happening at school and things like

Speaker:

that. So it's not a choice of

Speaker:

no, should I do this or that.

Speaker:

It's just how you can incorporate

Speaker:

and make it fun, you know, if

Speaker:

it becomes a chore, nobody

Speaker:

wants to do it right, to

Speaker:

start making the habit

Speaker:

of making health as

Speaker:

your priority.

Speaker:

You fit in.

Speaker:

You don't just leave it out and it

Speaker:

doesn't become a chore.

Speaker:

You know, and I think that, you

Speaker:

know, and we're going to talk a little

Speaker:

bit further after we answer a few

Speaker:

more questions, how we do that, how

Speaker:

we create that, you know, that is

Speaker:

kind of in a sustainable way for the

Speaker:

long term, which is I think it's the

Speaker:

most important thing.

Speaker:

You know, like how can we it is not

Speaker:

like a diet plan

Speaker:

for ten weeks, for 12 weeks.

Speaker:

It's how do you do that as

Speaker:

part of our life.

Speaker:

And, you know, and don't forget the

Speaker:

benefits of,

Speaker:

like showing your kids modelling

Speaker:

to your kids, how important

Speaker:

the importance that you give to

Speaker:

health. Right. Like my kids,

Speaker:

I am like guarantee

Speaker:

100% in

Speaker:

my journey wasn't about just changes

Speaker:

in me.

Speaker:

My physical, mental and emotional

Speaker:

health. It was about how can

Speaker:

I teach them?

Speaker:

How can a model for them

Speaker:

to always put themselves

Speaker:

first, to always put their health

Speaker:

first so they never have to go

Speaker:

through what I went through?

Speaker:

So I think that's kind of how we

Speaker:

change again, our mindset

Speaker:

behind the little bits that

Speaker:

get us stuck.

Speaker:

I love it. And it's exactly what I

Speaker:

do. Our children do, what we do,

Speaker:

not what we say.

Speaker:

So if we're saying that

Speaker:

we're putting healthy eating as a

Speaker:

priority and not spending time doing

Speaker:

with that. But children love

Speaker:

gardening. I mean, my children...

Speaker:

I get a lot about- because I've

Speaker:

got so many animals and everyone

Speaker:

always sees it as a chore.

Speaker:

And I'm not no, it's not a chore.

Speaker:

It's a benefit.

Speaker:

It gets me out in nature every day.

Speaker:

It builds my microbiome, it keeps me

Speaker:

moving, it keeps me fit.

Speaker:

My children have grown up doing that

Speaker:

every day.

Speaker:

And what an amazing way to start

Speaker:

your morning.

Speaker:

So we spend a lot of energy.

Speaker:

Don't we on thoughts and we're going

Speaker:

to come on to this with the habits.

Speaker:

It's really important.

Speaker:

We're spending a lot of energy

Speaker:

worrying and I am a natural worrier.

Speaker:

My natural personality.

Speaker:

I've had to really

Speaker:

take a good look at myself and see

Speaker:

how much energy I've wasted

Speaker:

over the years worrying about

Speaker:

things. Yeah, we're hopefully

Speaker:

going to start off today and come

Speaker:

back and do more of is how we

Speaker:

can convert that energy into

Speaker:

something more positive.

Speaker:

So it was a really lovely question.

Speaker:

Thank you so much.

Speaker:

The next one I've got is equally

Speaker:

good.

Speaker:

And so she really...

Speaker:

She was "diagnosed with breast

Speaker:

cancer stage three in November

Speaker:

and feel very strongly that with the

Speaker:

right mindset, I will absolutely

Speaker:

survive this.

Speaker:

I'm halfway through my second round

Speaker:

of chemo of 12 weeks

Speaker:

and I meditate and flow with

Speaker:

the situation.

Speaker:

No fighting.

Speaker:

My question is I know I have

Speaker:

to exercise more, but because of the

Speaker:

chemo, I'm just too tired.

Speaker:

I go out for walks every day as long

Speaker:

as I can or go for a bicycle ride.

Speaker:

But still my muscles have become

Speaker:

very weak.

Speaker:

I just feel to

Speaker:

just let my body have all the rest

Speaker:

it needs right now.

Speaker:

And then in six weeks, when I finish

Speaker:

the chemo, start with the gym.

Speaker:

I would like to know if following

Speaker:

the needs of my body now is a smart

Speaker:

thing to do, or should I force

Speaker:

myself to do more exercise?"

Speaker:

I think that is a great question.

Speaker:

That is a very, very powerful

Speaker:

question.

Speaker:

So during chemotherapy, somebody

Speaker:

sent me a video of a lady

Speaker:

who was battling stage four cancer.

Speaker:

Bowel cancer at the time,

Speaker:

and she had beat

Speaker:

the stage, fought four cancer, I

Speaker:

had stage three B, with exercise.

Speaker:

As soon as I saw that, I

Speaker:

was like, that's it. I need to make

Speaker:

exercise as a priority.

Speaker:

Now for this person who

Speaker:

asked that question.

Speaker:

I was sick 24/7.

Speaker:

You know, if you ever felt morning

Speaker:

sickness. I felt like this

Speaker:

24/7. I didn't...

Speaker:

I had probably a minute of relief

Speaker:

just after I ate and that was it.

Speaker:

Nothing else.

Speaker:

So I was sick.

Speaker:

I was tired.

Speaker:

The first session, I spent five

Speaker:

days in bed, you know, like it

Speaker:

was. It was rough.

Speaker:

It was not easy at all.

Speaker:

But there is science

Speaker:

backing up exercise during cancer

Speaker:

treatment now that it's you

Speaker:

can't deny the

Speaker:

benefits of exercising during

Speaker:

chemo anymore.

Speaker:

Oncologist should be actually

Speaker:

encouraging it.

Speaker:

You know, this was five years for

Speaker:

me. And oncologists should be

Speaker:

encouraging people to doing that

Speaker:

because now it's a fact.

Speaker:

It's real, it's a science backing

Speaker:

this up. So that's the first,

Speaker:

right?

Speaker:

The second, I do

Speaker:

understand that the body

Speaker:

needs a lot of rest.

Speaker:

So it's not again, it's not there.

Speaker:

Should I do this or should I do

Speaker:

that? You need to do both.

Speaker:

So...

Speaker:

And both are going to be equally

Speaker:

important. And how do you go about

Speaker:

it is that you

Speaker:

need to learn and connect

Speaker:

your body to process what it is.

Speaker:

The balance that I push my body

Speaker:

and I respect my body.

Speaker:

And it's a very fine line that

Speaker:

nobody can tell you apart from

Speaker:

yourself.

Speaker:

But there is no growth if you don't

Speaker:

push your body, right?

Speaker:

If you don't push your body, is

Speaker:

this six weeks?

Speaker:

You know, for me was seven and a

Speaker:

half months. If I hadn't done any

Speaker:

exercise, my body would have gone

Speaker:

like that.

Speaker:

But my body didn't because I was

Speaker:

able to finish chemo feeling

Speaker:

stronger than I started and I had 12

Speaker:

sessions.

Speaker:

If I hadn't done any exercise,

Speaker:

all my muscles, everything

Speaker:

would have declined a lot.

Speaker:

Yeah, but I wasn't in that position.

Speaker:

I didn't have cancer fatigue.

Speaker:

I didn't have anything because

Speaker:

I exercise daily.

Speaker:

Now, again, how do you go about

Speaker:

that? It's a habit.

Speaker:

I started with 5 minutes

Speaker:

in a walk around the block, 5

Speaker:

minutes yoga when I couldn't even

Speaker:

get out of the house, 5

Speaker:

minutes on my bike that I put on a

Speaker:

wheel trainer.

Speaker:

And then from five you go to six,

Speaker:

you go to seven, you go to eight.

Speaker:

But let me tell you, you're not

Speaker:

going to feel like it.

Speaker:

Hmm.

Speaker:

You are not going to feel like it.

Speaker:

But, you know, you have to make a

Speaker:

decision.

Speaker:

You know, if I used to ask myself

Speaker:

every single morning, do

Speaker:

I want to live or die?

Speaker:

I didn't have any other options.

Speaker:

Staying bed wasn't an option

Speaker:

for me.

Speaker:

Yeah. You know, I really strongly

Speaker:

believe that.

Speaker:

You know, like, especially in

Speaker:

the cancer journey, there is lots of

Speaker:

moving parts, not

Speaker:

doing one thing.

Speaker:

It's going to be the solution

Speaker:

for the problem it's doing a lot

Speaker:

of different things.

Speaker:

And exercise is a massive

Speaker:

important part.

Speaker:

So is really playing around.

Speaker:

Sometimes I would just go for

Speaker:

it and I would be sweating

Speaker:

so much that my PICC line, I

Speaker:

had a PICC line on my arm would

Speaker:

just get like irritated,

Speaker:

you know, and would be like, Oh, you

Speaker:

know, the oncologist would be like,

Speaker:

Oh, maybe you should stop

Speaker:

exercising.

Speaker:

I'm like, No,

Speaker:

I'm not stopping exercise.

Speaker:

So it is really a fine

Speaker:

line that only you can

Speaker:

connect your body each time and feel

Speaker:

in your self.

Speaker:

You know, today, how much can I push

Speaker:

my body and how much can I

Speaker:

respect my body?

Speaker:

And that just creates such

Speaker:

a beautiful connection with your

Speaker:

body. You know that I still have

Speaker:

to the I know when I am

Speaker:

tired and I need to get to bed early

Speaker:

and I know what

Speaker:

I need to do to push myself in an

Speaker:

exercise session, in a yoga

Speaker:

session, if I want,

Speaker:

I know exactly what my body needs

Speaker:

because I created that connection

Speaker:

with my body.

Speaker:

Love it. I think that's such good

Speaker:

advice.

Speaker:

So I hope that helps.

Speaker:

Thank you. We're looking forward to

Speaker:

more questions under this.

Speaker:

Now, the next question that I had

Speaker:

leads really nicely into

Speaker:

about how do we form habits

Speaker:

and what habits should we be looking

Speaker:

at that are no longer serving us?

Speaker:

So this chap was asking

Speaker:

about, you know, I want to find out

Speaker:

more about what you guys do with

Speaker:

to stay healthy, food

Speaker:

and water, what supplements both

Speaker:

lifestyle and for me, Angelica.

Speaker:

These are all the things we're

Speaker:

looking at when we're talking about

Speaker:

what habits are going to serve us

Speaker:

that we need to be incorporating.

Speaker:

Because no animal and nature,

Speaker:

not a single animal in nature

Speaker:

isn't doing what you were saying

Speaker:

then and balancing lots of things.

Speaker:

I don't think i've got shelter, so

Speaker:

I don't need to eat.

Speaker:

It's

Speaker:

this balancing act the whole time

Speaker:

when we embrace the fact

Speaker:

that we can make different choices

Speaker:

around our shelter, our

Speaker:

food, our water, our thoughts,

Speaker:

our company, etc..

Speaker:

So let's dive into the habits now

Speaker:

and sort of say when we're talking

Speaker:

about habits.

Speaker:

Where do people start?

Speaker:

How do they, first of all realise,

Speaker:

you know what? I've got to make a

Speaker:

change. What I'm doing at the

Speaker:

moment, they might not label it as

Speaker:

habits, but that their daily life

Speaker:

isn't suiting them.

Speaker:

What is the starting point?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So I think making a decision,

Speaker:

it's the first thing like saying,

Speaker:

no, I need to change something in my

Speaker:

life. I need to know having the

Speaker:

intention behind that.

Speaker:

I really am ready to change.

Speaker:

You know, I am. I'm all in now.

Speaker:

That doesn't mean that they need to

Speaker:

go to a 45 minutes

Speaker:

session at the gym, and I think

Speaker:

that's where the problem is.

Speaker:

That doesn't mean that they need to

Speaker:

go to boot camp.

Speaker:

You know that that doesn't mean that

Speaker:

they need to become plant based

Speaker:

overnight.

Speaker:

So for me, you know, and I

Speaker:

really guide my clients through

Speaker:

small changes and that,

Speaker:

you know, if people are listening to

Speaker:

that and they are in that place of

Speaker:

like, I need to do something, I

Speaker:

think there are two things that we

Speaker:

should start our morning with

Speaker:

that it's a must.

Speaker:

We need to exercise our body and we

Speaker:

need to exercise our minds

Speaker:

the way that we exercise our bodies.

Speaker:

It could look like a 5

Speaker:

minutes walk on the spot while

Speaker:

you listen to three songs.

Speaker:

If somebody hasn't exercise for

Speaker:

a long time, if somebody

Speaker:

is overweight and they have a lot

Speaker:

of weight to lose and they're

Speaker:

putting a lot of weight on their

Speaker:

joints, you don't want to do

Speaker:

anything drastic.

Speaker:

They could be in a five minute

Speaker:

yoga session. They go on YouTube.

Speaker:

There's plenty of amazing features

Speaker:

there. You just choose 5

Speaker:

minutes.

Speaker:

And you start doing that every

Speaker:

single morning.

Speaker:

And the 5 minutes exercise of the

Speaker:

mind is a 5 minutes meditation.

Speaker:

Now, don't call it meditation

Speaker:

because there's so much pressure

Speaker:

with that, right?

Speaker:

What it is meditation.

Speaker:

Do I have to become a monk?

Speaker:

Like, you know, in the cave and

Speaker:

humming? No. It's just

Speaker:

5 minutes that you do nothing.

Speaker:

That it could be a game with

Speaker:

an app like I've used at the

Speaker:

beginning headspace, which I really

Speaker:

like, just to guide

Speaker:

you through it, you know, just to

Speaker:

really kind of go, okay, you know,

Speaker:

now take some deep breath.

Speaker:

Now, does that mean that you're

Speaker:

going to sit there and you're not

Speaker:

going to have any thoughts, any

Speaker:

worries, anything coming up?

Speaker:

Oh, yes. You're going to have that.

Speaker:

Don't worry about it.

Speaker:

The most important thing is to

Speaker:

show up for yourself every single

Speaker:

day.

Speaker:

That is the most important.

Speaker:

Does that mean that with the 5

Speaker:

minutes walk, you're going to become

Speaker:

an Olympian overnight?

Speaker:

No, but but

Speaker:

I can guarantee you that the 5

Speaker:

minutes that you

Speaker:

walk on the spot is going to start

Speaker:

to make you stronger, is

Speaker:

going to start to make you mentally

Speaker:

happier, is going to

Speaker:

start to make you

Speaker:

feel happier about yourself

Speaker:

because you know that you are doing

Speaker:

something for you.

Speaker:

And you know that the endorphins

Speaker:

will be going you going to start the

Speaker:

day in a different way.

Speaker:

You're going to start tackling

Speaker:

things in a different way.

Speaker:

So everything starts compounding.

Speaker:

Now, I would suggest that people

Speaker:

stay on this for at least two weeks.

Speaker:

Don't start adding anything to

Speaker:

it, because that's a way

Speaker:

again,

Speaker:

everything goes pear shaped.

Speaker:

Oh, but I know what I need now to

Speaker:

change everything.

Speaker:

You know my diet. I

Speaker:

need to go from 5

Speaker:

minutes. 5 minutes is not doing

Speaker:

anything I need to do half an

Speaker:

hour. No.

Speaker:

It is not like

Speaker:

a race.

Speaker:

It is a life change.

Speaker:

It is changing a mindset.

Speaker:

Even if I did this for the rest of

Speaker:

my life, that's what I'm doing.

Speaker:

So when I go back to my myself

Speaker:

during chemo, that's what I thought.

Speaker:

What can I do for the rest of

Speaker:

my life that I'm doing

Speaker:

now that I can keep doing?

Speaker:

And let's face it, walking.

Speaker:

Walking is something that most can

Speaker:

do.

Speaker:

It has incredible benefits.

Speaker:

You don't have to go to the gym.

Speaker:

You know. And when I say walk on the

Speaker:

spot is that I have lots of clients

Speaker:

that live in Canada and America is

Speaker:

really cold in England.

Speaker:

So again, if you're walking on spot,

Speaker:

you have no excuses.

Speaker:

I used to exercise on my pyjamas

Speaker:

and sometimes I still do.

Speaker:

You just you get out of bed,

Speaker:

you stand up and

Speaker:

you just walk on the spot.

Speaker:

There is no excuse for not

Speaker:

doing it.

Speaker:

And I think another important thing

Speaker:

is thinking, okay, so I need an

Speaker:

extra 15 minutes in the morning,

Speaker:

5 minutes to walk on spot, 5

Speaker:

minutes to do a meditation, you

Speaker:

know, another 5 minutes to give or

Speaker:

take.

Speaker:

So going to bed 15

Speaker:

minutes earlier.

Speaker:

So you don't compromise on your

Speaker:

sleep.

Speaker:

What are most people doing an hour

Speaker:

before they go to bed?

Speaker:

They are on social media.

Speaker:

They are watching crap TV.

Speaker:

They are drinking alcohol and eating

Speaker:

crap food.

Speaker:

You know, snacks and things or

Speaker:

chocolate or whatever, you know?

Speaker:

Nothing is benefiting it.

Speaker:

So just go

Speaker:

to bed 15 minutes earlier.

Speaker:

So you don't have to.

Speaker:

It is not like you're missing out on

Speaker:

anything, is it?

Speaker:

It's not anything like it's

Speaker:

not, you know,

Speaker:

it's really not like we're missing

Speaker:

out. So just again, he's

Speaker:

in about that fine

Speaker:

balance respecting your self.

Speaker:

I'm going to go to bed earlier

Speaker:

because tomorrow I want to wake up

Speaker:

early and I don't want to compromise

Speaker:

on my sleep and I want to choose me.

Speaker:

First thing in the morning.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So if I had to add to

Speaker:

that. One more thing is do

Speaker:

not look at your mobile phone

Speaker:

first thing in the morning.

Speaker:

That is a killer of any

Speaker:

any physical, mental and emotional

Speaker:

health chance of you

Speaker:

feeling in control of your life.

Speaker:

You know, I don't turn my phone on

Speaker:

until I have done all my morning

Speaker:

routines. I finish my breakfast

Speaker:

and sometimes until I drop my kids

Speaker:

off at school and then I'll turn my

Speaker:

phone on. Unless

Speaker:

somebody is about to die in your

Speaker:

family or something, you know, that

Speaker:

is something that you know that you

Speaker:

need to attend to.

Speaker:

There is no need for you to do that.

Speaker:

It's very, very true.

Speaker:

And I think, you know, if anyone's

Speaker:

listening to this and they feel

Speaker:

resistance coming up.

Speaker:

I really want to cover that before

Speaker:

we move on, because the resistance

Speaker:

is there to tell you something.

Speaker:

It's to show you that

Speaker:

there's a habit there that is no

Speaker:

longer serving you.

Speaker:

And when we're honest with

Speaker:

ourselves, you know, none of

Speaker:

us would be thinking about changing

Speaker:

our habits if everything was perfect

Speaker:

in our life.

Speaker:

I don't know anyone where

Speaker:

everything's perfect in our lives if

Speaker:

we're all honest there's all areas

Speaker:

where we do want to change.

Speaker:

I think often the decision

Speaker:

is how bad are we going to let

Speaker:

it go before we make

Speaker:

that change?

Speaker:

And realising that there's a choice.

Speaker:

You know, if you've got that little

Speaker:

voice in your head or that little

Speaker:

feeling in your heart that

Speaker:

I'm talking myself out, when you

Speaker:

find yourself trying to convince

Speaker:

yourself that what you're doing is

Speaker:

okay, I would see

Speaker:

those as red warning flags.

Speaker:

What about you, Angelica?

Speaker:

I think there is this idea

Speaker:

that this inner voice is just going

Speaker:

to go away, like gone away,

Speaker:

Right. You're going to wake up on

Speaker:

Monday morning, 1st of

Speaker:

January, and that voice is not going

Speaker:

to be there anymore.

Speaker:

So understanding that

Speaker:

that voice is going to be there is

Speaker:

a really important part of the

Speaker:

process.

Speaker:

You need to have an answer to that

Speaker:

voice, because that voice is going

Speaker:

to tell you 5 minutes is

Speaker:

not going to do anything.

Speaker:

Why are you doing that again?

Speaker:

You've never done anything for too

Speaker:

long. It is just a waste of time.

Speaker:

Why are you meditating?

Speaker:

This is useless.

Speaker:

That is just

Speaker:

absolutely...

Speaker:

Like the real truth of what

Speaker:

everybody is going to go through.

Speaker:

But making the decision

Speaker:

to take

Speaker:

control of their

Speaker:

voice. That voice is not the truth.

Speaker:

It is simply

Speaker:

a way of the ego trying to protect

Speaker:

you, to keep you safe

Speaker:

in whatever you are doing because

Speaker:

it's comfortable by nature.

Speaker:

We choose that comfort.

Speaker:

But that does not mean that it's

Speaker:

true.

Speaker:

So another trick to

Speaker:

the habit is before you go

Speaker:

to bed, you rehearse

Speaker:

what's going to happen?

Speaker:

You wake up and that little friend

Speaker:

is going to be there.

Speaker:

Why are you doing that?

Speaker:

This is useless. It's not going to

Speaker:

do anything for you.

Speaker:

Don't get up.

Speaker:

It's too dark.

Speaker:

It's too cold.

Speaker:

So you just tell that

Speaker:

the voice gently "I know

Speaker:

what you're talking about, but I'm

Speaker:

going to do it anyway".

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

That's the plan.

Speaker:

You know, people that succeed, they

Speaker:

have a plan. They don't don't just

Speaker:

go with the flow.

Speaker:

You know, this is... you need to

Speaker:

have a plan in your mind, what am I

Speaker:

going to do tomorrow when that inner

Speaker:

voice that has always been there?

Speaker:

Belittling me and putting

Speaker:

me down and never encouraging

Speaker:

me. What am I going to answer

Speaker:

to that voice? Because that voice is

Speaker:

not going to go away.

Speaker:

And that's not because you're crazy.

Speaker:

Everybody has got that little voice.

Speaker:

So it's managing that.

Speaker:

Yeah, I think it's really,

Speaker:

really good advice for people

Speaker:

because, you know, preparation

Speaker:

is so key to success.

Speaker:

When you can anticipate

Speaker:

these things that you're going to

Speaker:

face, you can...

Speaker:

I have a laugh about it.

Speaker:

You know, I have a laugh with the

Speaker:

conversations I have with my inner

Speaker:

voice. I find it quite amusing.

Speaker:

And when you can recognise that

Speaker:

and separate that from you, you

Speaker:

know, there's so much, this is so

Speaker:

deep, everyone, we can go into

Speaker:

different areas. Oh here comes Coco.

Speaker:

I hope she's not gonna pull my

Speaker:

internet out.

Speaker:

She comes on my desk and then pulls

Speaker:

all the internet out.

Speaker:

But I think being prepared...

Speaker:

Now, there's so much to show

Speaker:

that your morning routine and your

Speaker:

bedtime routine are

Speaker:

absolutely key to making any changes

Speaker:

in your life.

Speaker:

Shall we have... We've already

Speaker:

spoken a little bit about that, but

Speaker:

there's books like The Miracle

Speaker:

Morning, which I absolutely love.

Speaker:

Now. It's pretty full on, but

Speaker:

actually you can implement little

Speaker:

bits of it, but understanding

Speaker:

how you start your day

Speaker:

and how you end your day are

Speaker:

really crucial.

Speaker:

What have you learned about that,

Speaker:

Angelica?

Speaker:

Yeah. So that's why I really think

Speaker:

that starting with and

Speaker:

the exercising of your body and

Speaker:

exercising of your mind, it's a

Speaker:

must. The Miracle Morning is a

Speaker:

beautiful book, but

Speaker:

you know, when people read that,

Speaker:

I've read that book, it's like, how

Speaker:

am I going to fit all

Speaker:

of this?

Speaker:

You know, in my morning routine

Speaker:

since I have been exhausted,

Speaker:

I can't wake up an hour and a half

Speaker:

before I need to get out of the

Speaker:

house or whatever.

Speaker:

So I think that's a little

Speaker:

overwhelming.

Speaker:

I agree.

Speaker:

So I think that if you start

Speaker:

with your.

Speaker:

If you start with your body

Speaker:

and your mind.

Speaker:

And the reason why I start with the

Speaker:

body and the mind is because

Speaker:

we live in our bodies,

Speaker:

even though we can control

Speaker:

our thoughts.

Speaker:

If our bodies, you know,

Speaker:

is in shambles like mine was, like

Speaker:

everything is out of whack

Speaker:

and you were exhausted.

Speaker:

And you, you know, you don't know if

Speaker:

you're coming or going.

Speaker:

It's very hard for you to focus on

Speaker:

anything because you are literally

Speaker:

on survival mode.

Speaker:

You're getting out of bed exhausted.

Speaker:

You're going to work exhausted.

Speaker:

You would just literally surviving.

Speaker:

So if you don't attend to your body

Speaker:

first thing in the morning.

Speaker:

And so, like I said, it can go so

Speaker:

deep into that.

Speaker:

You know, you're saying

Speaker:

to yourself.

Speaker:

You are a priority.

Speaker:

I love you.

Speaker:

You are first.

Speaker:

It doesn't matter what happens

Speaker:

after. I am putting you first.

Speaker:

This is the kind of connection I

Speaker:

have with my body because I started

Speaker:

doing 5 minutes.

Speaker:

Exercising my body 5 minutes,

Speaker:

exercising my mind.

Speaker:

Now, why is it so important to

Speaker:

exercise your mind?

Speaker:

Because everybody's got this

Speaker:

inner crazy voices

Speaker:

loose monkey inside of their heads

Speaker:

that are just running wild.

Speaker:

And that 5 minutes of

Speaker:

quiet time, no devices,

Speaker:

no flashing things, no

Speaker:

notifications, nothing.

Speaker:

You start it, you start

Speaker:

understanding their voice.

Speaker:

Like you're saying to the point that

Speaker:

one day you can actually laugh about

Speaker:

it. But most people

Speaker:

are not.

Speaker:

They don't even understand

Speaker:

that their voice is controlling

Speaker:

them.

Speaker:

24/7 and that's dictating

Speaker:

everything that they do.

Speaker:

24/7 because they have

Speaker:

zero control of what's going on in

Speaker:

their heads, because they don't they

Speaker:

don't stop.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Now, I had a client who

Speaker:

was a very successful

Speaker:

high achiever

Speaker:

and was married, happy with kids,

Speaker:

eat healthily.

Speaker:

Her health was under control

Speaker:

physically.

Speaker:

But she said, I'm not happy.

Speaker:

I'm just not happy.

Speaker:

And everybody tells me to meditate

Speaker:

and, you know, I haven't got time.

Speaker:

This is ridiculous.

Speaker:

The thing is with meditation is that

Speaker:

you need to with with yourself.

Speaker:

And that's scary.

Speaker:

And that can be quite scary and

Speaker:

daunting because if you are like me

Speaker:

before cancer, I had never

Speaker:

sat with myself, I didn't even know

Speaker:

who I was.

Speaker:

I'm like, Who is this person?

Speaker:

Who is this body?

Speaker:

What is this voice?

Speaker:

What is going on?

Speaker:

How did I even get here?

Speaker:

And of course, as soon as you start

Speaker:

going down there, you can either

Speaker:

let the resistance control

Speaker:

you and you stop doing

Speaker:

it altogether,

Speaker:

or you can embrace this journey

Speaker:

and think you know what.

Speaker:

Yeah, I have... There's so many

Speaker:

things that I want to change.

Speaker:

I have been doing so many things

Speaker:

that are not really benefiting me.

Speaker:

You know, I'm just going down the

Speaker:

wrong path here.

Speaker:

You know, I

Speaker:

felt that it was almost like I

Speaker:

needed to learn how to walk

Speaker:

again. I need to learn how to talk

Speaker:

again because everything that I've

Speaker:

been doing is wrong.

Speaker:

So be prepared to sit with that.

Speaker:

It can be challenging.

Speaker:

But I would always say to people,

Speaker:

don't underestimate the power

Speaker:

of 5 minutes.

Speaker:

A different a different habit.

Speaker:

Because I am here today.

Speaker:

Because I was prepared.

Speaker:

To sit there for the 5 minutes to

Speaker:

exercise, for the 5 minutes to do my

Speaker:

yoga practice for 5 minutes.

Speaker:

And some days I would think to

Speaker:

myself, this is not doing anything.

Speaker:

Nothing is doing anything.

Speaker:

I'm not getting any better.

Speaker:

I had many setbacks.

Speaker:

I would go in to have my

Speaker:

my chemotherapy treatment and they

Speaker:

would be saying to me, your bloods

Speaker:

are not good enough.

Speaker:

You've got low platelets, you've got

Speaker:

a low white cell.

Speaker:

You know this is happening.

Speaker:

That's happening.

Speaker:

And, you know, and I was already

Speaker:

changing.

Speaker:

But the thing is, like, it takes

Speaker:

time for the body to create

Speaker:

the disease.

Speaker:

Takes time.

Speaker:

It takes time for the body to create

Speaker:

harmony again and

Speaker:

and to reregulate again

Speaker:

to find a new normal again.

Speaker:

Patience and persistence.

Speaker:

And it is really, really important.

Speaker:

Yeah, I think that's just

Speaker:

absolutely key.

Speaker:

In terms of, um,

Speaker:

when people are...

Speaker:

If you're starting working with

Speaker:

clients and you're starting to get

Speaker:

them to sort of self-assess.

Speaker:

So we've got the starting point, the

Speaker:

morning starting point, mind

Speaker:

and body, start small.

Speaker:

I 100% agree with that.

Speaker:

So if people are listening to this

Speaker:

and they're thinking, right, but

Speaker:

there's so much about my life that

Speaker:

I want to change, we know

Speaker:

we're going to start small, but

Speaker:

how do you keep

Speaker:

the motivation to sort of start

Speaker:

then adding things on?

Speaker:

So when do you start adding the next

Speaker:

things on so that because positive

Speaker:

feedback is a real encourager

Speaker:

for people, isn't it, when they do

Speaker:

start feeling different, when they

Speaker:

do see that change,

Speaker:

it can give you that next boost

Speaker:

to keep going and know that you can

Speaker:

achieve more.

Speaker:

How do you cover that process with

Speaker:

your clients?

Speaker:

So there are a couple of options,

Speaker:

like there is an option that we

Speaker:

have Zoom sessions and we have

Speaker:

I provide them a 1

Speaker:

to 1 support via text

Speaker:

in between sessions, which I

Speaker:

really believe is very, very

Speaker:

important in this process because

Speaker:

life keeps happening.

Speaker:

Yeah, and you probably have

Speaker:

experienced that with your clients

Speaker:

as well.

Speaker:

And as soon something happens and

Speaker:

it's a little bit out of the whack,

Speaker:

you know, it's very easy for them to

Speaker:

just like, that's it.

Speaker:

Now all my routine is out of whack.

Speaker:

I don't know what to do.

Speaker:

And in actual fact, that's a really

Speaker:

important part of the process

Speaker:

to go, okay, that happened.

Speaker:

That's good, That's great.

Speaker:

So now you know, how are we going

Speaker:

to keep growing, how

Speaker:

we know we were going before the

Speaker:

morning routine?

Speaker:

And it might be that, you know,

Speaker:

people are doing 15 minutes, but,

Speaker:

you know, a couple of things

Speaker:

happened so that they don't miss

Speaker:

today altogether.

Speaker:

But you do 5 minutes or you

Speaker:

do your walk during lunchtime.

Speaker:

So it's teaching people

Speaker:

to think for themselves as

Speaker:

well.

Speaker:

You know, And sometimes, you know,

Speaker:

as you probably have experienced,

Speaker:

some people are quicker

Speaker:

to grasp, you know,

Speaker:

the whole idea of like, you know,

Speaker:

I'm on a roll now, I really like

Speaker:

it. You know, I want to change

Speaker:

more one more.

Speaker:

What should I do here?

Speaker:

What should I do there?

Speaker:

And some people, it takes a little

Speaker:

longer. Again, there is no judgement

Speaker:

here. We need to start

Speaker:

with what we've got.

Speaker:

You know, like there was no point in

Speaker:

like if, if, you know, during my

Speaker:

healing journey, if I was like,

Speaker:

stage three bowel cancer, I keep

Speaker:

thinking to myself, Oh my God, I

Speaker:

know why, You know, like, why do I

Speaker:

start here? And I'm so sick and poor

Speaker:

me and I'm so sorry for myself.

Speaker:

I mean, that doesn't help anybody.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So, you know, So you go, okay, so

Speaker:

this is what I've got.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

I think that leads really, really

Speaker:

nicely into the next thing.

Speaker:

So a lot of people will say, I can't

Speaker:

because.

Speaker:

And I think you are particularly

Speaker:

good. I mean, anyone who's not on

Speaker:

Angelica's newsletter list,

Speaker:

please get on Angelica's newsletter

Speaker:

list, the links are below,

Speaker:

the amount of advice

Speaker:

and really, really good advice

Speaker:

and straight talking advice that you

Speaker:

give out for free is absolutely

Speaker:

phenomenal. And this is what I mean.

Speaker:

There's people out there like

Speaker:

Angelica that really, really

Speaker:

want to help. We're all in this

Speaker:

together. You know, we can we can

Speaker:

all learn from each other and help

Speaker:

support each other.

Speaker:

But when people are...

Speaker:

It's another habit, isn't

Speaker:

it, that we go some

Speaker:

people, more than others, will go

Speaker:

straight into I can't

Speaker:

because rather than I can.

Speaker:

And with anyone who's got

Speaker:

children, we know how to encourage

Speaker:

and work through that.

Speaker:

But often as adults they don't

Speaker:

necessarily feel they've got that

Speaker:

encouragement, which is why working

Speaker:

with someone else to give you that

Speaker:

encouragement is often key to

Speaker:

success.

Speaker:

But recognition that you're

Speaker:

going into I can't poor

Speaker:

me is the first step, would you say?

Speaker:

The first step.

Speaker:

I mean, I have had clients that is

Speaker:

still by the time that they

Speaker:

come to me, they are feeling very

Speaker:

desperate because they have been

Speaker:

to different health professionals.

Speaker:

They haven't had the answer that

Speaker:

they want.

Speaker:

They have tried all the magic pills

Speaker:

and all the quick fixes and nothing

Speaker:

has has really helped

Speaker:

them and they are ready to change.

Speaker:

But in saying that there are clients

Speaker:

that when things

Speaker:

get hard, you know,

Speaker:

there is a lot of resistance, you

Speaker:

know, and I will.

Speaker:

And I think it's important as a

Speaker:

coach to

Speaker:

to be honest with people.

Speaker:

You know, when people say I can't

Speaker:

because my first initial

Speaker:

thought it will be to give them an

Speaker:

alternative solution.

Speaker:

Okay, let's say I don't like

Speaker:

walking. I hate walking.

Speaker:

Okay. So what do you like

Speaker:

doing? You know, do you like yoga?

Speaker:

Do you like swimming?

Speaker:

Do you love, like,

Speaker:

going on your bike?

Speaker:

You know, but you know, you

Speaker:

need to choose one thing that you

Speaker:

enjoy. I think that's really

Speaker:

important. You like dancing,

Speaker:

whatever it is.

Speaker:

But bottom line is, what are

Speaker:

you going to do?

Speaker:

Hmm.

Speaker:

To exercise your body.

Speaker:

You know, and I think it's, you

Speaker:

know, the person can come up with

Speaker:

their own, you know, plan that that

Speaker:

makes them feel happier.

Speaker:

That's fine.

Speaker:

But if they if the answer is

Speaker:

always I can't because I

Speaker:

can't because I will hold

Speaker:

their hand as much as I can.

Speaker:

But it does get to a point that you

Speaker:

need to say, okay, so do

Speaker:

remember why we got together.

Speaker:

What are your goals?

Speaker:

Okay. Well, my goal with is to,

Speaker:

you know, get my energy levels upon.

Speaker:

My goal with is to heal myself from,

Speaker:

you know, anxiety or from acid

Speaker:

reflux or from my constipation

Speaker:

issues or from, you know, I

Speaker:

want to finish cancer treatment

Speaker:

feeling stronger like you did.

Speaker:

Okay. So if that is

Speaker:

your goal, what are

Speaker:

you prepared to do every single

Speaker:

day to get you there?

Speaker:

Because by doing nothing, you're

Speaker:

not going to get that.

Speaker:

And I think because I lived through

Speaker:

it, if people, especially if people

Speaker:

have gone through the cancer

Speaker:

treatment, a cancer journey, people

Speaker:

will say to me, like, I'm really

Speaker:

tired. And I'll be like, Yeah, I

Speaker:

know, I've been there.

Speaker:

I have been there.

Speaker:

I know. It's exhausting.

Speaker:

It's not fun.

Speaker:

It's not great.

Speaker:

It's not ideal.

Speaker:

But I'm telling you, if you do

Speaker:

it now, if you push through it now,

Speaker:

the results are going to be amazing.

Speaker:

You are not going to believe how

Speaker:

much your body is going to give back

Speaker:

to you.

Speaker:

So it's taking them on this journey

Speaker:

of, you know.

Speaker:

I think it's really important to

Speaker:

reconnect them to their "why"?

Speaker:

Yes.

Speaker:

A lot of people, for example,

Speaker:

you know, these days they want to

Speaker:

lose weight.

Speaker:

I know they want to lose weight and

Speaker:

they want to lose weight fast

Speaker:

because they want to see themselves

Speaker:

in that bikini picture.

Speaker:

That's it. That's all they have in

Speaker:

their mind. And I just want to look

Speaker:

sexy. I want to look beautiful.

Speaker:

I want to look like this, you know,

Speaker:

like this Instagram pictures or

Speaker:

whatever.

Speaker:

Okay. But that is not enough

Speaker:

motivation to get you doing what

Speaker:

you need to do, especially if you

Speaker:

need to lose a lot of weight

Speaker:

to get there.

Speaker:

You need to have something different

Speaker:

in that.

Speaker:

You know, you're going to try for a

Speaker:

week, you're going to try for two

Speaker:

weeks, and then you're going to go

Speaker:

back and doing the same things as

Speaker:

you did before.

Speaker:

And this is why weight loss is

Speaker:

an industry that is worth

Speaker:

trillions of dollars.

Speaker:

Absolutely.

Speaker:

Yeah. Everyone wants a quick fix.

Speaker:

But at the end of the day, there's

Speaker:

tools that can help us get

Speaker:

started and make our

Speaker:

journey easier.

Speaker:

There's choices we can make from

Speaker:

there, but no one else is going to

Speaker:

do it. So I loved your latest

Speaker:

newsletter. This really stood out

Speaker:

for me because I thought, Bingo,

Speaker:

there's so many people that feel

Speaker:

this. I don't think there's anyone

Speaker:

that won't have felt this.

Speaker:

When someone says to you,

Speaker:

Well, okay, you've come

Speaker:

up and you're building on different

Speaker:

habits, change your way because

Speaker:

that's Joe Dispenser.

Speaker:

And as everyone says, you know,

Speaker:

you're not going to get different

Speaker:

results if you don't start doing

Speaker:

things differently.

Speaker:

Yeah, it's literally that simple

Speaker:

for me. It's like, you know, I have

Speaker:

this every day.

Speaker:

Angelica Well, yeah, if I want to do

Speaker:

different, if I want to feel

Speaker:

differently, if I want to have

Speaker:

more energy, if I want to,

Speaker:

whatever your goal might be,

Speaker:

then I have to do something

Speaker:

differently. Because if I keep doing

Speaker:

the same thing, I'm going to keep

Speaker:

getting the same results. So that

Speaker:

realisation.

Speaker:

It is literally that honest and that

Speaker:

straightforward.

Speaker:

But I notice someone asked you

Speaker:

about, well, how

Speaker:

do you not worry

Speaker:

that you're going to slip back into

Speaker:

your old habits?

Speaker:

And most people do slip

Speaker:

back. Yeah, old habits.

Speaker:

And I said when

Speaker:

you said, Well, I sat there and I

Speaker:

thought, Do I want to feel exhausted

Speaker:

again? Do I want to feel out of

Speaker:

control? So talk us through

Speaker:

when people because it's that nag,

Speaker:

that voice. Again, everyone's

Speaker:

thinking, but it's not going to

Speaker:

last. I've tried it before.

Speaker:

I've tried changing before.

Speaker:

Hasn't worked.

Speaker:

What's that switch?

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So I'm going to talk about an

Speaker:

emotional habit that I change.

Speaker:

Actually, a couple

Speaker:

that was really ingrained

Speaker:

in my physical body, and it was

Speaker:

my addiction to anger

Speaker:

and my addiction to which

Speaker:

which really, you know,

Speaker:

became a deep resentment inside of

Speaker:

me with everything.

Speaker:

And my default mode

Speaker:

to react towards anything that

Speaker:

happened to my life.

Speaker:

And my addiction to stress.

Speaker:

And you know the addiction.

Speaker:

Both of them came from

Speaker:

observing my parents,

Speaker:

dealing with things, because

Speaker:

when I was about 15,

Speaker:

my my dad had a business with his

Speaker:

family and it didn't work

Speaker:

out. And our lives became quite

Speaker:

tormented in that period.

Speaker:

And then I saw my dad just being

Speaker:

very angry and very, you know,

Speaker:

everything. It was a stress

Speaker:

thing in my house was just

Speaker:

horrendous, you know, And I, I kind

Speaker:

of thought, this is how you deal

Speaker:

with life. This is how you

Speaker:

you know, like I say, you know, kids

Speaker:

do what you do, not what you

Speaker:

ask them to do.

Speaker:

Right?

Speaker:

And I created these and I manifested

Speaker:

stressful jobs and our manifested,

Speaker:

you know, opportunities in my life

Speaker:

to be angry.

Speaker:

And after I finished chemotherapy,

Speaker:

feeling my physical body

Speaker:

was in

Speaker:

excellent shape

Speaker:

for what I had gone through.

Speaker:

I realised I need to now

Speaker:

it start tapping into my

Speaker:

mental and emotional habits because

Speaker:

I can't get stressed like this

Speaker:

anymore.

Speaker:

You know, I can't keep being

Speaker:

stressed all the time and worrying

Speaker:

crazy. I can't do this anymore.

Speaker:

I can't afford to doing that

Speaker:

anymore. And I, for one stressful

Speaker:

situation, it can shut down

Speaker:

your immune system for 5

Speaker:

hours.

Speaker:

Yeah, for that.

Speaker:

You know, it was it was it was real

Speaker:

Like for me, it was like, this is a

Speaker:

fact.

Speaker:

So what am I going to do about it?

Speaker:

And I started observing myself

Speaker:

how I dealt with everything

Speaker:

and becoming really self aware of,

Speaker:

Wow, why do I get so angry about

Speaker:

something that's got nothing to do

Speaker:

with me?

Speaker:

It's this is just it's

Speaker:

very interesting.

Speaker:

And, you know, and I started

Speaker:

observing someone and I stopped

Speaker:

being scared to

Speaker:

sit with me.

Speaker:

To sit with my feelings and with

Speaker:

my, you know, the way that I was.

Speaker:

I think a lot of it, we feel shame

Speaker:

and we feel guilt, you know, why am

Speaker:

I so crazy?

Speaker:

Know, like, why why do I behave

Speaker:

like this? Or, you know, I want to

Speaker:

change, but I don't know how because

Speaker:

you are in kind of this

Speaker:

self-awareness stage

Speaker:

and thinking like, how how do

Speaker:

I move that to create a

Speaker:

new habit.

Speaker:

And I think what people don't

Speaker:

realise is that.

Speaker:

Every plate of food that

Speaker:

you eat, every time

Speaker:

you exercise, every meditation

Speaker:

practice, you start building

Speaker:

a different foundation,

Speaker:

a different environment

Speaker:

inside you at a

Speaker:

physical level, at an

Speaker:

energetic level in your cells.

Speaker:

And at an emotional level.

Speaker:

So that urge

Speaker:

is starts getting less and less.

Speaker:

Because if you think about it, a

Speaker:

person who is eating constantly

Speaker:

sugar, drinking alcohol

Speaker:

and not, you know, not sleeping, not

Speaker:

exercising, it doesn't take

Speaker:

that much for that person to be

Speaker:

stressed.

Speaker:

It doesn't take much for that

Speaker:

person to be angry.

Speaker:

I was that person.

Speaker:

But once I start looking after my

Speaker:

terrain, my garden,

Speaker:

it was even easier to become

Speaker:

aware of the habit.

Speaker:

And when it comes to an emotional

Speaker:

habit, is just about becoming aware.

Speaker:

Every time he pops, it pops up.

Speaker:

Here I go. I'm angry again.

Speaker:

This is it. I'm angry again.

Speaker:

This is really interesting.

Speaker:

There is no judgement.

Speaker:

I'm just angry. That's okay.

Speaker:

I'm not going to judge myself.

Speaker:

I'm not going to kill myself over

Speaker:

it. I am just angry again.

Speaker:

I am just stressed.

Speaker:

Why am I so stressed about this?

Speaker:

What can I do in this situation?

Speaker:

Or like were you you say I was

Speaker:

like that always constantly

Speaker:

worrying, constantly worrying until

Speaker:

my life became so fragile

Speaker:

that I couldn't even

Speaker:

plan the next day, because the next

Speaker:

day I could have been in emergency

Speaker:

and in the hospital.

Speaker:

So planning was just an illusion.

Speaker:

So when life got me to

Speaker:

facing that "do you want a plan?"

Speaker:

Well I'm going to show you how

Speaker:

you can plan.

Speaker:

So tomorrow you're going to be you

Speaker:

know, you're at emergency.

Speaker:

You're like, why did I even worry

Speaker:

about that. I didn't even know

Speaker:

I was going to be here?

Speaker:

And I really think... And I mean,

Speaker:

this is perhaps another episode

Speaker:

that we could do. We manifest things

Speaker:

in our lives so we can go through

Speaker:

our learning.

Speaker:

And again, because I'm stubborn as

Speaker:

hell, I manifested something

Speaker:

that was pretty serious for me to

Speaker:

see what I needed to do.

Speaker:

So we do those things here

Speaker:

so people don't have to go through

Speaker:

those things, right?

Speaker:

So people can just wake up before.

Speaker:

Yeah. And it's a choice, isn't it?

Speaker:

It's a choice. It's an energy

Speaker:

choice. And I think

Speaker:

recognising that about yourself

Speaker:

is absolutely key because yes, you

Speaker:

can have loved ones and friends

Speaker:

and things that can help

Speaker:

point things out to you.

Speaker:

But until you accept it yourself

Speaker:

and are honest with yourself

Speaker:

about your patterns, someone once

Speaker:

said to me a while

Speaker:

ago, You know, my

Speaker:

whole corporate career was on

Speaker:

project planning, risk management,

Speaker:

looking at things that could go

Speaker:

wrong and mitigating those risks.

Speaker:

And I was really, really good at it.

Speaker:

And my father was really good at

Speaker:

risk management type of things as

Speaker:

well.

Speaker:

And then someone said to me, "well,

Speaker:

are you sure you're not an

Speaker:

arsonist firefighter?" So i said

Speaker:

what do you mean? And it's like, "do

Speaker:

you subconsciously

Speaker:

create or attract things

Speaker:

in your life just so that you can

Speaker:

continually reinforce how good you

Speaker:

are at sorting those crises out?"

Speaker:

and I was like...

Speaker:

It was such an aha moment

Speaker:

for me. It was, yeah.

Speaker:

And it was said from a place

Speaker:

of...

Speaker:

I didn't even know this person so

Speaker:

well, but they were so perceptive

Speaker:

and they were saying it from a

Speaker:

really helpful place and I could

Speaker:

have chosen to argue against

Speaker:

that or I could have like,

Speaker:

Oh my God.

Speaker:

And then when you realise it...

Speaker:

And you can accept it, you can then

Speaker:

decide to do something about it.

Speaker:

And what you realise is I

Speaker:

have realised I've created

Speaker:

so much energy to be able to

Speaker:

put into creating things I do want

Speaker:

in my life, just by

Speaker:

not using that same energy for

Speaker:

worrying about things that I could

Speaker:

have chosen to change at any time.

Speaker:

Now, it might have taken quite a

Speaker:

while to get there, and this is

Speaker:

why I laugh during these conversations.

Speaker:

As we've said the whole time, it's

Speaker:

not a race. You will get there when

Speaker:

you want to, but if you're even

Speaker:

watching this today, if you're

Speaker:

thinking about reaching out to work

Speaker:

with any sort of coach,

Speaker:

I would just say, listen to

Speaker:

yourself. There's some part of you

Speaker:

that's crying out for help.

Speaker:

There's some part of you that wants

Speaker:

to make a change and knows

Speaker:

that things could be even better

Speaker:

in your life.

Speaker:

And that will have a knock on effect

Speaker:

on loved ones.

Speaker:

So talk me through Angelica for you.

Speaker:

Because you've made such huge

Speaker:

changes. So, Angelica

Speaker:

is an expert at

Speaker:

getting people to create

Speaker:

new habits and most importantly,

Speaker:

stick to them.

Speaker:

What has been the

Speaker:

reaction from people that have known

Speaker:

you for a long while?

Speaker:

Like loved ones, family members,

Speaker:

friends, etc.?

Speaker:

Really interesting.

Speaker:

When I decided to go plantbased

Speaker:

which was one of the first

Speaker:

kind of changes that I made after

Speaker:

reading, you know, about nutrition

Speaker:

and what I needed to do in

Speaker:

my journey.

Speaker:

Nobody thought it was a good idea.

Speaker:

My family, not my husband

Speaker:

or my kids, but like extended

Speaker:

family, they were like, you can't,

Speaker:

you've got to eat meat.

Speaker:

And I'm like, No, I'm not.

Speaker:

You know, that's it.

Speaker:

You know, like, I am very

Speaker:

I have been very independent,

Speaker:

you know, from my family and from,

Speaker:

you know, my husband's family.

Speaker:

They know how strong minded I

Speaker:

am.

Speaker:

And I kind of, you

Speaker:

know, this is it.

Speaker:

This is my journey.

Speaker:

You know, this is my body.

Speaker:

I'm doing this.

Speaker:

And I, you know, for me was very

Speaker:

much I you know, for

Speaker:

me, it was like life or death.

Speaker:

I needed to make some drastic

Speaker:

changes. And and there was nothing

Speaker:

that was going to deviate me from

Speaker:

that.

Speaker:

I think it gets tricky.

Speaker:

Like we live here in Australia and

Speaker:

we don't have family here, so it's

Speaker:

easy for us.

Speaker:

But you know, there was a lot of

Speaker:

talks all the time. Are you still

Speaker:

not going to eat meat? Are you not

Speaker:

going to drink milk?

Speaker:

Not going to eat cheese.

Speaker:

They not going to, you know, like

Speaker:

you, you know, is really good for,

Speaker:

you know, not going to eat pasta?

Speaker:

It's like, no.

Speaker:

You know, that kind of stuff.

Speaker:

And it's like for me, it's like they

Speaker:

don't know, you know, and after

Speaker:

seeing me because of course, they

Speaker:

hadn't seen me

Speaker:

you know, until after the the

Speaker:

treatment and how well

Speaker:

we all look to me, my husband

Speaker:

and my kids, everybody was like,

Speaker:

wow, Like, this is incredible.

Speaker:

Like, this is just

Speaker:

the proof is in the pudding.

Speaker:

I mean, you guys are thriving

Speaker:

like I can see that.

Speaker:

And I would say a few family members

Speaker:

have taken on board some

Speaker:

of our changes for sure,

Speaker:

but not everybody.

Speaker:

And again, I think that, you know,

Speaker:

I have a lot of clients that said,

Speaker:

they say to me, my husband is never

Speaker:

going to do that.

Speaker:

You know, my kids are never going to

Speaker:

do that.

Speaker:

You know, again, I think it's

Speaker:

important not to worry about

Speaker:

that and just to focus

Speaker:

on you and stay in your lane.

Speaker:

If that's the case.

Speaker:

Like I was really lucky that my

Speaker:

husband was like, okay, fine,

Speaker:

I get it. And I can explain to him

Speaker:

what happened, you know,

Speaker:

he reaped the benefits because he's

Speaker:

in the best shape of his life and

Speaker:

he's going to be 50.

Speaker:

My kids.

Speaker:

It was a little struggle at the

Speaker:

beginning. They didn't want to

Speaker:

change. You know, I kind of,

Speaker:

you know, kind of kept being

Speaker:

persistent. Again, sometimes I would

Speaker:

go to the same meal seven times

Speaker:

before my daughter would say, oh,

Speaker:

yeah, I really like that.

Speaker:

Tastebuds take a while to change,

Speaker:

don't they? Because... a different

Speaker:

conversation, but the microbiome,

Speaker:

if you're feeding it the wrong

Speaker:

stuff, then your mouth

Speaker:

and taste buds and everything will

Speaker:

crave the wrong stuff.

Speaker:

Because I say it's like there's

Speaker:

little bad gremlins in your mouth at

Speaker:

saying, Give me sugar, give me

Speaker:

sugar, give me sugar.

Speaker:

So, you know, this why.

Speaker:

I know, I know.

Speaker:

Exactly.

Speaker:

It's amazing to see how your

Speaker:

tastes change when you tip

Speaker:

over that threshold of consistency,

Speaker:

isn't it?

Speaker:

Yeah. I mean, sometimes I eat an

Speaker:

apple and I'm like, Oh my God,

Speaker:

they've added sugar to this apple.

Speaker:

This is just too sweet for me

Speaker:

because I don't need any more

Speaker:

refined sugar now.

Speaker:

But it is a gradual process.

Speaker:

And I think it's it's important

Speaker:

to always reconnect

Speaker:

to your way because it's not.

Speaker:

And nobody wants to change,

Speaker:

right? Like change is

Speaker:

like it is challenging.

Speaker:

We all like comfort and,

Speaker:

you know, and doing the same things.

Speaker:

But when you look at it and you have

Speaker:

a really good audit of your life,

Speaker:

you have to ask

Speaker:

herself... Do I actually feel

Speaker:

great? Do I jump out of bed feeling,

Speaker:

you know, full of energy and happy

Speaker:

and excited about the day?

Speaker:

You know, people think like, oh,

Speaker:

that's an illusion.

Speaker:

It's not.

Speaker:

It's not an illusion.

Speaker:

An illusion is leaving in exhaustion

Speaker:

and thinking this is the only way.

Speaker:

Now, I'm not sitting here and

Speaker:

saying, I don't have any problems.

Speaker:

I don't have any stress, I don't

Speaker:

work on anything else and I'm

Speaker:

perfect.

Speaker:

But I have committed to show

Speaker:

up to myself every single

Speaker:

day.

Speaker:

So went back to that question, which

Speaker:

I actually didn't finish.

Speaker:

When people say to me like, you

Speaker:

know, it's okay to go back to your

Speaker:

old self, it's impossible.

Speaker:

I've created a different pattern.

Speaker:

Yeah, it's literally

Speaker:

impossible.

Speaker:

My body doesn't know how to

Speaker:

be angry anymore like

Speaker:

I was before.

Speaker:

My body doesn't know how to

Speaker:

be stressed all the time

Speaker:

like I was before.

Speaker:

You start creating different

Speaker:

patterns, which is the work that Dr.

Speaker:

Joe Dispensa talks about

Speaker:

by sitting in meditation and

Speaker:

by kind of

Speaker:

how does he say, like taking

Speaker:

the reins of the bull you know, like

Speaker:

just every time you know, that your

Speaker:

mind wanders, you bring it back.

Speaker:

Your mind wanders, You bring it back

Speaker:

the same thing. You know I'm

Speaker:

angry. Yeah, I'm angry.

Speaker:

Okay, well, now it's time

Speaker:

to go for a walk,

Speaker:

you know, and just have an intention

Speaker:

to let this go, you know?

Speaker:

And the more you start doing those

Speaker:

things, the more you start creating

Speaker:

different patterns inside your body,

Speaker:

different energy in your cells,

Speaker:

and you'll become a different

Speaker:

person.

Speaker:

I love it. I absolutely love

Speaker:

it. So I can't wait to see the

Speaker:

questions we've got from this.

Speaker:

So I just want to I

Speaker:

know we've been going for a while,

Speaker:

but a couple more things that I

Speaker:

really want to sort of cover.

Speaker:

First and foremost, perception.

Speaker:

So you covered something

Speaker:

really, really important there that

Speaker:

I just want to bring out a bit more

Speaker:

for people.

Speaker:

People don't realise

Speaker:

how good things can be.

Speaker:

Because these changes creep

Speaker:

up gradually on ourselves.

Speaker:

The weight, the lack of energy,

Speaker:

that not having time to

Speaker:

cook etc.

Speaker:

And most people

Speaker:

watching us, not all, I know all of

Speaker:

our situations are unique,

Speaker:

but a lot of people

Speaker:

are lucky enough to have a lot of

Speaker:

choices. You know, anyone that can

Speaker:

go to a supermarket and has a choice

Speaker:

of food, that's a real luxury

Speaker:

that many people in the world

Speaker:

have.

Speaker:

So convenience

Speaker:

can be such a killer of

Speaker:

dreams.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

So recognising

Speaker:

that we have these choices

Speaker:

and recognising that almost...

Speaker:

I sort of say going back to

Speaker:

the more simple way of things, I

Speaker:

feel really, really lucky.

Speaker:

So I can have my washing machine

Speaker:

and my tumble dryer.

Speaker:

And I... I actually try not

Speaker:

to use supermarkets for

Speaker:

other reasons, for ethical reasons.

Speaker:

But actually going back to

Speaker:

when I grew up,

Speaker:

my mother didn't have big

Speaker:

supermarkets, you had to

Speaker:

go to the greengrocers for your

Speaker:

fruit and veg and you went to the

Speaker:

butchers for your meat.

Speaker:

You know, it was a full day's job

Speaker:

going and getting the supplies in.

Speaker:

Every day food was cooked

Speaker:

from scratch because we didn't have

Speaker:

convenient meals.

Speaker:

You know, you didn't have ready made

Speaker:

meals. Yeah.

Speaker:

So it's lovely.

Speaker:

We've got that choice and we don't

Speaker:

have to be perfect all the time.

Speaker:

But realising the joy

Speaker:

in going back to those basic

Speaker:

life skills I

Speaker:

think can be transformational.

Speaker:

I'm now lucky enough I'm in a state

Speaker:

where I work from home most of the

Speaker:

time, so a vegetable

Speaker:

garden going again.

Speaker:

I've got into sprouting, I've

Speaker:

got into all sorts of

Speaker:

things that I've wanted to do.

Speaker:

So that joy of going

Speaker:

back to the basics in life can be

Speaker:

so great to reconnect with, do you

Speaker:

think?

Speaker:

I think

Speaker:

gratitude is everything.

Speaker:

I, at the beginning of my journey,

Speaker:

you know, I started,

Speaker:

I made a shift.

Speaker:

I would say I was quite a negative

Speaker:

person because of everything that I

Speaker:

had gone through, especially with my

Speaker:

family, because my dad and my mom

Speaker:

and everybody became very negative

Speaker:

because our lives became hell

Speaker:

overnight.

Speaker:

But as soon

Speaker:

as I was ready to conquer

Speaker:

the cancer and that whole journey,

Speaker:

I started being grateful for

Speaker:

being in Australia in a first world

Speaker:

country where I had the best service

Speaker:

ever.

Speaker:

You know, being grateful for having

Speaker:

a poo after chemotherapy and being

Speaker:

constipated.

Speaker:

Being grateful for having had the

Speaker:

best surgeon, you know, to

Speaker:

have done my emergency surgery.

Speaker:

Being grateful for having a plate of

Speaker:

food and was healing, you know, with

Speaker:

every mouthful.

Speaker:

So and I think that.

Speaker:

Bottom line is when you talk about

Speaker:

convenience is that

Speaker:

people don't prioritise their

Speaker:

health. And that's the bottom line.

Speaker:

Yeah. What people

Speaker:

are doing with their time is they,

Speaker:

they're spending on social media.

Speaker:

They are spending on going

Speaker:

to get a take away or whatever.

Speaker:

If anything,

Speaker:

I think social media is actually

Speaker:

a killer of a lot of things

Speaker:

because people are just scrolling

Speaker:

and not educating

Speaker:

themselves and applying anything to

Speaker:

their lives and wasting their time.

Speaker:

And when it gets down to time

Speaker:

management,

Speaker:

when something is important to you,

Speaker:

like your social media scrolling,

Speaker:

you'll make time for it.

Speaker:

Absolutely.

Speaker:

You know, when it's not,

Speaker:

you know, it's really like thinking,

Speaker:

you know, before I would be the

Speaker:

first to say, oh, health is the most

Speaker:

important thing, but I didn't live

Speaker:

by that.

Speaker:

I didn't display those

Speaker:

actions every single day.

Speaker:

You know, it is about thinking

Speaker:

that, you know, is health really

Speaker:

important to me?

Speaker:

Why?

Speaker:

I sat at the reception waiting

Speaker:

for my chemotherapy treatment

Speaker:

with people that were at least 20

Speaker:

years older than me. I was by far

Speaker:

the youngest.

Speaker:

They would look at me thinking like,

Speaker:

What are you doing here?

Speaker:

You know, if I didn't have a PICC

Speaker:

line, they would probably think I

Speaker:

was with somebody and

Speaker:

I had a

Speaker:

real conversation with myself.

Speaker:

Do I want to end up here again?

Speaker:

Is that how I want to grow

Speaker:

old?

Speaker:

I mean, some people from one week

Speaker:

to another, they'll come in like

Speaker:

half dead

Speaker:

and I'll be- I don't want to I don't

Speaker:

want to come to this place anymore.

Speaker:

I'm going to do everything I can

Speaker:

every single day.

Speaker:

So I never depend

Speaker:

on doctors that I don't depend

Speaker:

on medication. I was dependent

Speaker:

on them.

Speaker:

And, you know.

Speaker:

Is that a guarantee?

Speaker:

No, it's not.

Speaker:

What is the...

Speaker:

What is the other choice?

Speaker:

Keep doing what I was doing.

Speaker:

Going back to drinking

Speaker:

alcohol, eating crap food,

Speaker:

and being stressed out and angry and

Speaker:

unhappy.

Speaker:

I don't want to go back there.

Speaker:

So until people are ready to have

Speaker:

a hard conversation with themselves,

Speaker:

you know, change is it's impossible

Speaker:

to make. But once you are ready

Speaker:

to to really have a serious

Speaker:

conversation with yourself.

Speaker:

In a little while, you know, you

Speaker:

start creating a different version

Speaker:

of yourself, a different body, a

Speaker:

different mind.

Speaker:

I have a belief that

Speaker:

anything is possible.

Speaker:

When you set your mind to.

Speaker:

Anything is possible when

Speaker:

that does not mean you're going to

Speaker:

be sitting in the sofa eating cakes.

Speaker:

I'm sorry.

Speaker:

You know, that means you're going to

Speaker:

have to do stuff.

Speaker:

You know, and I think it's it's a

Speaker:

choice, you know. Do you want to be

Speaker:

ready?

Speaker:

You know, do you actually want to do

Speaker:

things or not?

Speaker:

Or do you want to stay where you

Speaker:

are? And for me, another

Speaker:

important part, what motivated

Speaker:

me, especially at the beginning, and

Speaker:

I would always say this, is that

Speaker:

I couldn't do it for me.

Speaker:

I did it for my children because

Speaker:

they were six and four.

Speaker:

And the thought of them growing

Speaker:

up without a Mum,

Speaker:

I just couldn't bear it.

Speaker:

So that got me motivated.

Speaker:

So this whole idea that a bikini

Speaker:

picture is going to motivate you,

Speaker:

you forget about it, it's not.

Speaker:

You need to have a deeper "why"

Speaker:

if you want to get out of bed every

Speaker:

day and control that inner

Speaker:

voice and, you know, get out when

Speaker:

it's dark and cold,

Speaker:

you know, when you haven't

Speaker:

done for years, when you want

Speaker:

and lose the weight, it's not going

Speaker:

to be easy.

Speaker:

But is it impossible?

Speaker:

No, it's not.

Speaker:

And are the rewards worth it?

Speaker:

Absolutely.

Speaker:

And can anybody do it for you

Speaker:

know, like I knew that

Speaker:

the oncologists were doing the best

Speaker:

they could, you know, the

Speaker:

gastroenterologist were doing

Speaker:

their job. But it was my job

Speaker:

to take control.

Speaker:

And it's everybody's job to take

Speaker:

control of their health.

Speaker:

There are things that only each

Speaker:

of us can do.

Speaker:

And that goes beyond taking

Speaker:

supplements right, as you know,

Speaker:

supplements sitting

Speaker:

here.

Speaker:

But the things that you need

Speaker:

to do physically, mentally and

Speaker:

emotionally, it sits with you.

Speaker:

Yeah. Supplements are not

Speaker:

an excuse for living an unhealthy

Speaker:

a lifestyle.

Speaker:

They are a brilliant enabler

Speaker:

to one of your habits that you're

Speaker:

going to look through, whether you

Speaker:

do it on your own with your coach.

Speaker:

Can I go back to the eating cake on

Speaker:

the sofa? So for me, the biggest

Speaker:

perception and I've seen this, my

Speaker:

daughter has got a massive "why"

Speaker:

and she is so brilliant

Speaker:

at sticking to her habits.

Speaker:

She's understood what she needs to

Speaker:

do to make the changes to achieve

Speaker:

what she wants. And she is an

Speaker:

absolute inspiration.

Speaker:

I mean, I'm blown away by how good

Speaker:

she is.

Speaker:

But what I wanted to say to people,

Speaker:

I really want your opinion on this

Speaker:

is the difference is this is

Speaker:

and please correct me if I'm wrong.

Speaker:

You're not sitting there thinking,

Speaker:

oh, my God, I'm missing out,

Speaker:

sitting on the sofa eating cake

Speaker:

with my glass of wine because you

Speaker:

don't want to do it anymore.

Speaker:

It like when you said

Speaker:

it's impossible for you to go

Speaker:

back to the old way when you make

Speaker:

these changes.

Speaker:

It's not that you're sitting there

Speaker:

each day feeling that you're

Speaker:

making a sacrifice.

Speaker:

You you don't ever want to

Speaker:

make that choice again.

Speaker:

Talk me through how that works for

Speaker:

you.

Speaker:

So

Speaker:

I drank for 16 years

Speaker:

and, you know,

Speaker:

and I never stopped drinking alcohol

Speaker:

after the kids, you know, like I

Speaker:

kept drinking two units

Speaker:

every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and

Speaker:

Sunday before, you know, you're

Speaker:

drinking every day.

Speaker:

And you know, how goes sugar is the

Speaker:

same thing. You know, everybody,

Speaker:

you know, brings cakes to work and

Speaker:

you eat in bed. Oh, yeah, I'm not

Speaker:

addicted to sugar, but there's sugar

Speaker:

in everything.

Speaker:

Now, once

Speaker:

you start understanding,

Speaker:

the, you know, the scientific

Speaker:

whatever they want to call, the

Speaker:

knowledge behind why you're doing

Speaker:

that. And for me, that is

Speaker:

also important.

Speaker:

You know, it takes 3 hours

Speaker:

to to detox from one unit

Speaker:

of alcohol. And I'm like, you

Speaker:

know, I binge drink for 16 years.

Speaker:

You know, my liver is probably still

Speaker:

doing that.

Speaker:

You know, like, I

Speaker:

don't... I can't imagine

Speaker:

going back to any of it.

Speaker:

Like,

Speaker:

if I see things that are,

Speaker:

you know, cakes

Speaker:

and chocolate,

Speaker:

I would eat dark chocolate, but I

Speaker:

wouldn't eat any milk chocolate

Speaker:

anymore. I mean, I am a strict

Speaker:

because I have to be strict because

Speaker:

I have gone through what I have gone

Speaker:

through. Right.

Speaker:

And I want to put this out that as

Speaker:

well. But I do think that

Speaker:

the whole like I only do a little

Speaker:

bit this

Speaker:

day to have to be so cautious about

Speaker:

what you do because it's

Speaker:

sugar, alcohol,

Speaker:

convenience is everywhere.

Speaker:

So once you start getting to

Speaker:

a new, creating

Speaker:

a new normal inside your body.

Speaker:

If we have one, take away

Speaker:

a week and that would have

Speaker:

to be to restaurants that I

Speaker:

know where its from and all the rest

Speaker:

of it. You know, I feel it in my

Speaker:

body and I don't want to have any

Speaker:

more than that.

Speaker:

If I go to a place where,

Speaker:

you know, there is nothing

Speaker:

for me to eat, I will just look for

Speaker:

the absolutely the healthiest

Speaker:

thing. I mean, I'll get out of my

Speaker:

way. I'm not doing that because,

Speaker:

you know, out is not a chore.

Speaker:

It is a habit now.

Speaker:

It is my habit.

Speaker:

I don't even think about it.

Speaker:

I just do it.

Speaker:

My kids do it.

Speaker:

My husband does it.

Speaker:

It's not... We don't even think

Speaker:

about it.

Speaker:

My kids would say to me, Mommy, I

Speaker:

read too much sugar, I don't want

Speaker:

this anymore.

Speaker:

If they go to a party.

Speaker:

They will tell me, Mom, you've

Speaker:

eaten, what?

Speaker:

We went to the restaurant.

Speaker:

If you go to the restaurant

Speaker:

and you bring

Speaker:

the leftovers home and you eat for

Speaker:

lunch, they'll be like, Oh, can we

Speaker:

have something at home today?

Speaker:

Because, you know, eating twice is

Speaker:

just too much.

Speaker:

So it's but

Speaker:

it's unconscious now.

Speaker:

It's unconscious.

Speaker:

It's not even conscious anymore for

Speaker:

me.

Speaker:

Yeah. That's why I wanted to do

Speaker:

really people realise is it's not...

Speaker:

what we're talking about it

Speaker:

you're not going to then spend the

Speaker:

whole rest of your life feeling that

Speaker:

you're missing out.

Speaker:

It's absolutely completely

Speaker:

the opposite.

Speaker:

Because there will be a

Speaker:

point when your body

Speaker:

makes that switch-over

Speaker:

where they really...

Speaker:

You're not craving those choices

Speaker:

anymore.

Speaker:

And you know, this is the joy

Speaker:

is it's not...

Speaker:

It's very hard when people start

Speaker:

down the journey, you think,

Speaker:

Angelica, for it not to feel like

Speaker:

an overwhelming mountain to climb,

Speaker:

which is why we keep coming back.

Speaker:

Start small.

Speaker:

Work with someone to get some

Speaker:

support. Yeah. And if you if you

Speaker:

can't afford to coach, there's so

Speaker:

much good online resources that you

Speaker:

can look at with books that you

Speaker:

can get, etc..

Speaker:

So there's there's something out

Speaker:

there for everyone, but don't

Speaker:

feel...

Speaker:

The rewards so outweigh

Speaker:

the benefit.

Speaker:

And taking that first

Speaker:

step to changing

Speaker:

is literally like taking the first

Speaker:

step to recreating your new life.

Speaker:

I totally agree.

Speaker:

And I think it's I am

Speaker:

I think that's a big misconception.

Speaker:

People thinking that we're here

Speaker:

suffering.

Speaker:

You know, like if you

Speaker:

ask me, I haven't

Speaker:

had like a soda.

Speaker:

There is things that I would never

Speaker:

have never had after my cancer

Speaker:

treatment. No, I would never have a

Speaker:

McDonald's. Like, I would never have

Speaker:

that. Not even like, I would rather

Speaker:

go hungry.

Speaker:

You know, there are things that we

Speaker:

don't have.

Speaker:

But for me, like the

Speaker:

idea of it,

Speaker:

it is it's it's actually quite

Speaker:

scary. I'm like, I just, you know, I

Speaker:

couldn't even face this in the same

Speaker:

way as maybe people think about,

Speaker:

you know, healthy food like that.

Speaker:

I think about unhealthy food like

Speaker:

that. Like, why would I even do

Speaker:

this? You know, like, this is this

Speaker:

is crazy. You know?

Speaker:

And and I think you mentioned

Speaker:

briefly about this supermarket.

Speaker:

I didn't go to the supermarket for

Speaker:

three months when I kind of

Speaker:

self-quarantined during treatment.

Speaker:

And I remember the first day I went

Speaker:

to the supermarket, I had made

Speaker:

so many changes already.

Speaker:

My husband would go and get all the

Speaker:

veggies and we would be cooking at

Speaker:

home.

Speaker:

And it was so overwhelming

Speaker:

that experience of going to the

Speaker:

supermarket for the first time, you

Speaker:

know, it was like if I had never

Speaker:

been to one.

Speaker:

And I looked around and I stopped

Speaker:

going through the aisles because

Speaker:

you've got the veggies and fruit.

Speaker:

And I was like, Oh, my God.

Speaker:

Sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar.

Speaker:

Processed, process, processed.

Speaker:

And I was just like, whoa.

Speaker:

And I actually felt a deep

Speaker:

compassion for everybody

Speaker:

that is trying to be healthy,

Speaker:

because I thought to myself, how can

Speaker:

somebody who

Speaker:

has got no idea, was confused,

Speaker:

who is trying to lose weight,

Speaker:

trying to get control of their

Speaker:

health come out of this place

Speaker:

with a healthy trolley?

Speaker:

Absolutely.

Speaker:

It is virtually impossible.

Speaker:

It's impossible.

Speaker:

Yeah.

Speaker:

Yeah. And. And this is a thing.

Speaker:

Yeah. I think you said so many

Speaker:

times in this interview, and I'm so

Speaker:

grateful that you have that

Speaker:

this is not about beating yourself

Speaker:

up. It's not about judging yourself.

Speaker:

There's a huge difference

Speaker:

between.

Speaker:

Understanding

Speaker:

where you're at and criticising

Speaker:

yourself for it.

Speaker:

It's so easy, it's virtually

Speaker:

impossible. I'm very lucky.

Speaker:

We live in a little village,

Speaker:

quite a long way from the other

Speaker:

towns, so I have no temptation

Speaker:

to get takeaways most of the time.

Speaker:

I'm not saying we never have one.

Speaker:

If we have one, we've got to get in

Speaker:

the car, drive 20, 25 minutes.

Speaker:

Yeah, by the time you get back,

Speaker:

it's cold. You know, we don't have

Speaker:

any of that delivered to us.

Speaker:

It's such a blessing.

Speaker:

While, if I lived in a middle of a

Speaker:

town, a city, or something,

Speaker:

obviously I've got way,

Speaker:

more temptations to me.

Speaker:

So don't beat yourself up about

Speaker:

this, but please don't feel

Speaker:

that this is a hardship,

Speaker:

a suffering it is literally-

Speaker:

the biggest thing I want to leave

Speaker:

people with. It's the complete

Speaker:

opposite.

Speaker:

I've got loads of habits.

Speaker:

So I'm going to be speaking to

Speaker:

Angelica about, you know,

Speaker:

working with her. Because this is

Speaker:

the thing is once you start

Speaker:

and then you multiply when you have

Speaker:

it, then you're ready to take on the

Speaker:

next one. And some people can take

Speaker:

more than one at once and other

Speaker:

people can't.

Speaker:

So it's a very individual journey,

Speaker:

but just starting somewhere.

Speaker:

So if we had to wrap up today,

Speaker:

if people were sitting there

Speaker:

thinking right, okay,

Speaker:

I've got to first of all realise

Speaker:

what my habits are.

Speaker:

And secondly, start.

Speaker:

You start. We've been really clear

Speaker:

about 5 minutes in

Speaker:

the morning for your physical body

Speaker:

and quieting your mind.

Speaker:

What other things do you

Speaker:

want people to walk away from-

Speaker:

summaries from this interview?

Speaker:

What are your must haves that you

Speaker:

really want people to remember?

Speaker:

So sleep.

Speaker:

Definitely don't compromise on

Speaker:

sleep. Going to bed 15 minutes earlier.

Speaker:

If

Speaker:

you are going to wake up

Speaker:

15 minutes earlier.

Speaker:

You know, I run to my bed at 9:00

Speaker:

and I wake up at five.

Speaker:

So I have 8 hours.

Speaker:

I literally run to my bed.

Speaker:

I say to my husband, do you have

Speaker:

anything else to say?

Speaker:

Because I'm going to bed.

Speaker:

That's it.

Speaker:

So.

Speaker:

Unless the house is on fire, I am

Speaker:

rushing to bed.

Speaker:

And and I think that,

Speaker:

you know, if people are going to

Speaker:

change their diet, change

Speaker:

one thing at a time, so change their

Speaker:

whole breakfast.

Speaker:

Yeah. You know, that's a fact.

Speaker:

And then and then after two weeks,

Speaker:

you know, change their lunches.

Speaker:

After two weeks, they start

Speaker:

introducing the dinners is a bit

Speaker:

harder because you have to

Speaker:

incorporate the whole family, right?

Speaker:

I actually do have a course which

Speaker:

is called Change Your Habits, Change

Speaker:

Your Life. It's 147 USD.

Speaker:

You can find the link below if

Speaker:

people want to get it, which takes

Speaker:

people by the hand on those simple

Speaker:

habits that they can implement with

Speaker:

how to change the breakfast and

Speaker:

lunch as well. But I

Speaker:

think, like I said, it's so

Speaker:

important to stop taking all

Speaker:

of these advice like, Oh, this

Speaker:

is too hard.

Speaker:

Start where you are at

Speaker:

the start with small steps

Speaker:

and once you start getting the

Speaker:

momentum, don't go and jump again.

Speaker:

The consistency is more

Speaker:

important

Speaker:

than how many minutes

Speaker:

you exercising and how many minutes

Speaker:

you are meditating.

Speaker:

You know, when you feel when you

Speaker:

actually feel like this is actually

Speaker:

part of who I am, then you move to

Speaker:

the next habit.

Speaker:

Love it.

Speaker:

You know, because everybody's

Speaker:

busy, everybody's got a lot

Speaker:

on. So and I think

Speaker:

when you start your day like this,

Speaker:

the most important thing is that

Speaker:

you're choosing you.

Speaker:

As a mom and, you know, you know

Speaker:

that like, it's so hard for us

Speaker:

to choose ourselves.

Speaker:

And as a parent, you know,

Speaker:

we feel, you know, if you've got

Speaker:

family members or or animals

Speaker:

to look after.

Speaker:

You know, I've had clients say I've

Speaker:

got to feed my dogs first, ok, so

Speaker:

you know. Okay, so how do we

Speaker:

incorporate that to choosing

Speaker:

you?

Speaker:

Because once you fill your cup every

Speaker:

morning, every day.

Speaker:

You are not kind of getting your

Speaker:

bank balance from the negative every

Speaker:

day, which is what most people are

Speaker:

doing.

Speaker:

I love it. And for those of you with

Speaker:

animals.

Speaker:

One of the biggest joys can be

Speaker:

watching them return back to health.

Speaker:

And that's what I specialise in, is

Speaker:

working with people to change the

Speaker:

habits, the the diet plans

Speaker:

the exercise that's sort

Speaker:

of... It's just as important for

Speaker:

animals as Coco will testify

Speaker:

here lying on my desk.

Speaker:

Let us know your questions below.
